Artifacts and the Library
What an artifact is
An artifact is a page a bot makes for you to read as a whole or come back to: a report, a plan, a comparison, a tracker or a dashboard. The bot writes it as one HTML file, so it can have tables, charts and scripts of its own. Ask for one ("make me a page that tracks my applications"), and bots also make one on their own when a long answer reads better as a page.
In the chat
An artifact shows in the bot's chat as a card: the top of the artifact, its title and Artifact. Click or tap the card to open it.
The card always shows the newest version, even an older card from before the bot changed it.
Opening an artifact
The artifact opens full size over the chat:
- Close artifact (the X) goes back to the chat.
- The title at the top renames it: click or tap it, type the new name (Rename artifact).
- Share artifact: on the desktop, Save as HTML saves the file and Open in browser opens it in your default browser. On the iPhone, the share sheet gives you
<title>.html. - Links in an artifact open in your browser. Its scripts run on their own, apart from Codync, and it keeps its own saved state (a tracker's ticks stay ticked).
- Terminal UI: pick the card (
v), thenoopens it in your browser andfsaves<title>.htmlto Downloads.
An artifact can be up to 5 MB.
Changing an artifact
The box at the bottom of an open artifact, Message about “title”, sends the bot a message about this artifact. The bot changes the same artifact instead of making a new one; the open artifact reloads with the new version, and every card for it shows it.
You can also reply to the artifact's card in the chat; it reaches the bot the same way.
An artifact a bot made during a routine run has no card in the chat, so there's no box: ask about it in the chat.
The Library
Each bot's Library holds what was made or shared in its chat, newest first under Today, Yesterday, This week and Earlier:
- its artifacts, which open as above; the menu on a row also has Rename artifact and the share actions,
- files the bot shared, which download like their card in the chat,
- files and images you sent; an image opens full size.
Where to find it:
- Desktop: click the bot's name at the top of the chat, then the Library tab.
- iPhone: tap the bot's name at the top of the chat, then the Library tab.
- Terminal UI: press
Lfor the bot's Library tab.Enteroroopens an artifact in your browser, fsaves any row to Downloads, andrrenames an artifact.
The Library looks through the bot's newest 500 messages with files.
Artifacts are kept on your computer, in Codync's data folder. Deleting the bot deletes them.
